All working people know the struggle of waking up in the morning and how to get to work. The nightmares of being stuck in traffic with other people on their way to their respective 9-5s are not uncommon. Many a time we can find some other nuisances on the road that make rush hour an even bigger nightmare. Sometimes, it is a fallen tree; other times, it could be pothole repairs, a road closure, etc. These are the things that you expect may happen if there is excessive traffic on the road. The one thing that you could never predict or expect to happen is this: two teenagers riding about town, amidst traffic, in a go-kart!
On the 1st of October, 2019, two teenagers dressed all in black, were found revving through a major road in the city of Newport in South Wales – no, not in a car, not on a motorcycle or a scooter, but a go-kart. Around 10 a.m. on that day, the pair of teenagers zipped once around the Old Green Roundabout in a red and black colored go-kart. They left via the same exit they took to enter the venue of the roundabout and were caught on camera, with their faces hidden, amidst their rebellious and reckless behavior. In the stills captured from the video of the kids, one boy riding the go-kart is visible, covering his face, and holding on to him, sitting behind him is one more boy. The two boys look as though they are having the times of their lives.
How Did The People Around The Teenagers React?
10:00 a.m. falls towards the middle to end rush hour. Hence, of course, there was traffic around these teenagers. One of the men in traffic around them was a middle-aged man named Darren Ward, who happened to be a motorcycle enthusiast. Go-karts make about the same amount of noise as a motorcycle would with its silencer. Due to his interest in motorbikes, it was instinctive for Ward to pull out his phone camera and start recording, so he wouldn’t miss what the “motorbike” looked like. Of course, he ended up recording the go-karting boys instead of any motorbike. He was quite amused that these boys were riding around this way in the middle of traffic; he called it a very typically “Newport thing” to do. It just so happened that this video got these boys into trouble, without Ward’s meaning for that to happen.
What Trouble Did They Get Into?
Of course, first off, the police seized the go-kart (after they finally found it) and then continued to search for the teenagers that decided to run a go-kart through 10:00 a.m. traffic. While the general public may find the situation quite humorous, the police did not. They said that the behavior of these teenagers was reckless, and by doing what they did, they broke quite a few traffic laws. Some of these include driving without insurance and also dangerous driving. The teenagers risked their lives as well as others’ lives by whisking through traffic in a go-kart. However, the police were happy that the teenagers were safe and sound.
