In the past 68 years of Formula One racing, many teams came, but only a few were able to make their mark in the history of the game. While teams like Ferrari garnered a lot of popularity, teams like Maserati and Toyota got lost in the time. Let’s check out the most celebrated F1 teams based on factors like success, longevity, and innovation.
Mercedes Benz (1954-55, 2010-Present)
Mercedes first participated in 1954 in the FIA F1 World Championship and was an instant hit. They won FIA Driver’s Championship in consecutive years 1954-1955. The tragic incident in Le Mans in the year 1954 led to the withdrawal of the team. Though the team worked as an engine manufacturer behind the curtains in the 1990s, it marked its return in 2010. Reforms in engine regulations in 2014 brought back their glory. Since then, the team has competed in 79 races, secured pole positions in 71, and won 63.
Team Lotus (1958-1994)
Team Lotus was known for its innovations. It was founded by Colin Chapman in the 1950s and competed for the first time in 1958 by participating in F1’s Monaco race. It was the first team to gain commercial support and recognization with the “Gold Leaf” symbol on their cars. Team Lotus was one who introduced noteworthy aerodynamic changes in cars, which later became the foundation of modern sports cars. The highly innovative team managed to stay ahead on tracks by winning six Driver’s and seven Constructors Championship titles.
Sir Frank Williams founded the Williams team in 1997. Willims won the first title of the British Grand Prix in 1979 and never looked back since then. This team has won more than 100 race titles and Constructors Championships until today. This record places the team in second-best position in F1 racing. The Williams has also successfully won 114 Grand Prix Tournaments and seven Driver’s Championships till the date.
Founded by Enzo Ferrari, this team is the oldest active participant in F1 Championships. They have been competing in F1 races since the year 1950. They have secured 15 Driver’s and 16 Constructors Championships and has whopping 231 race titles to its name. It is the highest number of victories when compared to all other teams who have competed in F1 races. Juan-Manuel Fangio, John Surtees, Alberto Ascari, Michael Schumacher, Niki Lauda are few of the legendary drivers who have been part of this team. Every driver who is part of F1 Championships dreams of driving the Prancing Horse, but very few are lucky to lay their hands on this majestic sports car.
